As noted by almost everyone, Linux was born to be networked.
The HTTP load-balancer also comes with a failover which means that, if a web server stops responding, the request will be rerouted to another server. Your corporate firewall may have a proxy server where everyone's internal computer points to a central proxy server, and that server goes out and services requests.
